Tulane Golf Closes Out Fall Season this Weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's 20th-ranked women's golf team will play in its final event of the fall season this weekend at the 13th annual Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships at the par-72, 7,100- yard Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The opening round will tee off this Friday at 9 a.m. The event is hosted by the University of Tennessee and the 18-team field features nine teams ranked in the nation's Top-25 squads according to GolfStat.com and includes Arkansas, Chattanooga (#17), Florida (#12), Furman, Kent State, Kentucky, LSU (#7), Louisville (#22), Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State (#9), Texas-San Antonio, South Carolina (#24), TCU, Tennessee (#18), Tulane (#20) and Wake Forest (#19). The 54-hole tournament begins this Friday and concludes with the final round on Sunday. The field will play 18 holes each day with teams teeing off from the first and 10th holes and will continue under the same format for the second and third rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Tulane is making a return trip to Fox Den and will look to improve on last year's 17th place finish, and will turn to its junior duo of 35th-ranked Linn Gustafsson and 63rd-ranked Janine Fellows to lead the way. Among those teams is defending Mercedes-Benz champion LSU. The Tigers were seven strokes off the lead heading into the final day, but carded a tournament-record 281 for the third round and ran away with the title by nine strokes. The 2008 individual medalist was Lauren Doughtie of North Carolina State, who shot a tournament record 209 total (68-73-68. Live results will be posted at Click here for up-to-the minute results.
