NEW ORLEANS - The 31st-ranked Tulane women's golf team returns to action this weekend as the Green Wave faces a competitive field in the 2009 Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at the par-72, 6,217-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn. The first round will get underway on Friday, Sept. 25 at 8 a.m. CT, while Saturday's second and Sunday's final rounds will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT.

Tulane is one of 17 nationally ranked teams (Golfworld/NGCA Top-25) in the field, which includes top-ranked and defending national champion Arizona State and second-ranked and 2009 national runner-up USC. The 2009 field includes Alabama (#7), Arizona (#17), Arizona State (#1), Auburn (#8), Duke (#10), Florida (#29), Georgia (#14), LSU (#11), Oklahoma State (#4), South Carolina (#47), Stanford (#22), Texas (#26), Tulane (#31), USC (#2), UCLA (#3), Vanderbilt (#21) and Virginia (#9). The event is hosted by Vanderbilt and will feature a 54-hole format with 18 holes each day.

The Green Wave is coming off a second place finish in its season opener at the rain-shortened Mo Morial two weeks ago in Bryan, Texas. The duo of junior Janine Fellows and sophomore Samantha Troyanovich each finished tied for third, while sophomores Stephanie Wagstaff (T15) and Ashley McKenney (T17) rounded out four Wave players among the top 20 players in the field.

"Our team is really excited to be competing in the Mason Rudolph this weekend," Tulane head coach John Thomas Horton said. "This is one of the most prestigious events in the country with easily one of the best fields of the year, and should be a mini-preview of the teams at the national championship at the end of the season. It is still early in the year and since we only got one round in last week, we are looking to use this tournament as a bench mark to see where we stand.

"We are very thankful to Coach Allen and Vanderbilt University for the invite. Nashville is a great city. This is a wonderful opportunity for our team."

UCLA is the defending Mason Rudolph champion after posting a combined 14-under par 850 a year ago and edged runner-up USC by six strokes. UCLA's Sydnee Michaels took home the 2008 individual title with an 11-under par 205 total.
