Tulane's Fellows Tied for 70th Place following Second Round of U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship
June 23, 2009
New Orleans - Tulane's Janine Fellows fired a 5-over par 77 to go with her opening round 4-over par 76 and sits in 70th place in stroke-play qualifying for the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at 153. Fellows is 9-over par on the 6,267-yard, par-72 Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass. Fellows opened Tuesday's second round playing even par golf through her first four holes, but a bogey putt on the fifth hole put her at 1-over par. She finished even on her final four holes on the front nine for a 37. On the back nine, she suffered a double bogey putt on the 10th hole, but rebounded with a birdie at the 11th hole to drop to 2-over par. She continued to play even the next three holes, but a bogey at No. 15 and a double bogey at No. 16 pushed her to 5-over par, where she would finish the day. During Monday's opening round, she opened the front nine holes at 3-over par and was just 1-over par for a 4-over par total on the day. Following the conclusion of the second stroke-play qualifying round, the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers for match play on Wednesday. A 36-hole final is scheduled for Saturday. The Women's Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted by the United States Golf Association, of which 10 are strictly for amateurs.
