New Orleans - Fresh off capturing his first and the school's third Conference USA title since 2004, Tulane head women's golf coach John Thomas Horton announced today the signing of Sage Roth to a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the Green Wave squad this fall.

A native of Millersville, Maryland, Roth is a 2008 graduate of the Severn School in Severna Park, Md., and spent the last year in a post-graduate program at Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy on Hilton Head Island, S.C. The post-graduate program is designed for high school graduates who are seeking to fine-tune their golf skills and earn a college golf scholarship.

"Sage is a great athlete and a very competitive individual," Horton said. "This is a strong combination for college golf. She is new to the game but is picking it up extremely quickly. Her work ethic and determination will be a great addition to this team. We look forward to her joining us in the fall."

Roth, who was introduced to golf by her father when she was 7-years old, advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 Maryland State Women's Amateur and had three victories on the International Junior Golf Tour including wins at Mountain Branch in Joppa, Md., the Chateau Elan and at Port Royal Plantation on Hilton Head at the Hank Haney IJGA Invitational.

During her prep career at the Severn School, Roth was a four-sport athlete in golf, field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, and was an honor roll student in each of her four years. She was named to the Baltimore Sun All-County Golf Team (Boys Conference) after leading the boys golf team to a conference title during her freshman year in 2005, tabbed to the Elite Players Tour and was the Female Player of the Year in 2006, was selected to 2007 USA Field Hockey Futures Program (USA Field Hockey Olympic Development Team), and received the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) All- Conference Award in 2008 (Boys Conference).

Roth is Tulane's second signee this spring, joining Maribel Lopez Porras as the team's newcomers this fall.
