New Orleans - Fresh off a fifth place finish and more importantly helping her team to a team title, junior Janine Fellows has been named the Conference USA Female Golfer of the Week, as selected by the C-USA office. This is her second Golfer of the Week honor of the season.
Fellows, who hails from Houston, Texas, produced a 1-over 73 to finish as TU's top individual with a fifth place showing and lead Tulane to the team title at the 2010 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate. Fellows produced two rounds of par or better and finished even for the tournament with a 54-hole total 216 (71-72-73).
The 32nd-ranked Tulane women's golf team seemed well on its way to defending its team title at the 2010 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate after entering the final round with an eight stroke advantage, but a 7-over 295 on the final day combined with a 1-under total from 23rd-ranked Texas A&M made things interesting down the stretch but the Green Wave maintained its poise and collected its second straight championship at the event in as many years with a three-round 13-over 877 at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Tulane edged the No. 23-ranked Aggies and finished atop a field that included four Big 12 Conference schools, two fellow Conference USA members, two opponents from the Southeastern Conference and the lone representative from the Big 10 Conference.
For the year, Fellows has registered four top-10 finishes and now has eight rounds of par or better. She received her first C-USA Golfer of the Week honor of the season on March 2 after she claimed individual medalist honors and led the Wave to the team title at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge.
After posting back-to-back wins at the Rebel Intercollegiate, the Green Wave will look to do the same in its next tournament when it sets its sights on a repeat title at the Conference USA Championships, April 18-20, at the Canebrake Golf Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.
