MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Tulane women's golf team opened spring competition by posting an opening-round 304 and stands in fourth place at the San Jose State Lady Spartan Invitational.
Led by senior Meghan Bolger, who fired an even-par 72 and is tied for the individual lead after the first round, the Green Wave carded a solid team total of 304 and currently ranks fourth in the 14-team field. Tournament-host San Jose State leads the event at 299, while Tulsa (300) and Arizona State (303) round out the top three. The field features four teams ranked in the nation's top 20.
Bolger's opening-round 72 equaled her low round of the year and was one of three Tulane players to rank in the top 30. Junior Pam Buff shot a 75 and is currently tied for ninth place, while senior Catalina Lara shot a 78 and is tied for 27th position.
Other Tulane finishers include freshman Kathy Schafer (T34th/79) and sophomore Marcela Gonzalez (T41st/80).
The 54-hole tournament has been hampered by rain and is scheduled to be completed on
Wednesday, March 8. The event is being held at the Laguna Seca Golf Course, a par
72, 5,893-yard layout.
