Tulane Golf Finishes Third In Green Wave Women's Golf Classic
Kathy Schafer finishes in the top spot for Tulane, with a card of 229 and fouth place overall.

NEW ORLEANS, La. -

The Tulane women's golf team claimed third place in the annual Green Wave Women's Golf Classic held at the Lakewood Country Club on Tuesday.

The 2001 Green Wave Classic champions were Tennessee who finished with a team total of 921. The runner-up was Vanderbilt who finished 21 strokes back.

After a sudden death playoff the individual champion was Tennessee's Tina Schneeberger, who posted a 227 (73-79-75) score through three rounds. She edged out Vanderbilt's Meredeth Ward.

Tulane's top finisher was Kathy Schafer. She tied for fourth with a three round total of 229. The next three Green Wave golfers, Carolin Landman, Mary Jan Fernandez and Marcela Gonzalez, finished the classic in a three-way tie for 24th with a 240. Bonnie Hanlin posted the 40th best score, 245.

Tulane individuals, Pam Buff and Carrie Farnham, finished in 57th and 76th respectively.

Up next for the Tulane women's golf team is the South Florida Waterlefe Invitational on March 19-20, in Bradenton, Fla.
