NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's 18th-ranked golf team completed the fall portion of its schedule today by combining for a 6-over 294 total during the final round of the 2013 Alamo Invitational and posted a 10th place finish at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.
Sophomore Emily Penttila finished strong with a 1-under 71 today and finished in 17th place with a 1-under 215 total, while classmate Silvia Garces fired a 2-over 74 and posted a 1-over 217 effort for 24th place.
Sophomore Madison Opfer carded a 1-over 73, her best round of the event, and finished with a 5-over 221 for 42nd place.
Freshman Belen Goicoechea went to the clubhouse with an 8-over 80 on the day and posted a 54-hoel score of 10-over 226 for 61st place, while rookie Olivia Winning matched her first round score with an identical 4-over 76 and registered a 14-over 226 for 71st place.
"Emily had a solid round today and finished the tournament under par, which was great, while Madison and Silvia hung in there but just couldn't get it going," Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. "We didn't succeed in shooting under par today, but I thought we hung in there as a group. Heading into the winter break, each player knows what they need to work on while we have some time off, so I am looking forward to working with this group and get better for the spring."
Oklahoma used a 12-under 276 effort to overtake LSU for the team title, while Arkansas was third, followed by Florida in fourth place and Texas A&M and host UTSA tied for fifth place.
LSU's Lindsay Gahm held off Oklahoma's Alexandra Kaui to claim individual medalist honors. Kaui started the round in eighth-place but fired a 7-under 65 and just missed tying for first place by one stroke.
