NEW ORLEANS - The 18th-ranked Tulane golf team combined for a 2-over 290 total and is tied for 10th place, while sophomore Silvia Garces carded a 2-under 70 and is in 13th place following the opening round of the 2013 Alamo Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course in San Antonio, Texas.

Tulane, Tennessee and Louisville golfers will start Monday's second round from the 10th tee box at 9:02 a.m.

Today, Garces and the Green Wave began the day from the first tee box and she was able to log a pair of birdies on the par-5 No. 5 and No. 7 holes and played even for the remainder of the day. She sits in 13th place, just one stroke out of ninth place.

Sophomore Emily Penttila sported a 1-under 71 scorecard and sits in 18th place. She overcame two bogeys with three birdies to finish under par.

Sophomore Madison Opfer notched a birdie on the third hole, but a triple bogey on the ninth hole proved to be the difference with her round, as she finished 2-over and is in 49th place.

The freshmen duo of Belen Goicoechea and Olivia Winning went to the clubhouse with a 3-over 75 and a 4-over 76, respectively. Goicoechea is in 58th place, while Winning is 63rd.

"We had two very good rounds today from Silvia and Emily and we just need to have a day where we have 4-5 of our scores counting," Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. "Once again, we need to capitalize on our opportunities when we have a chance to make birdies. Tomorrow, we need the freshmen to step up their games and get more of their rounds. I think they are ready to do that and the other three are playing pretty well."

No. 5 Oklahoma combined for a 10-under 278 and holds a one stroke lead over No. 7 Arkansas. No. 17 Florida is third, Texas A&M is fourth and No. 25 LSU and host UTSA are tied for fifth place.

Louisville's 79th-ranked Laura Restrepo and Florida's 91st-ranked Sarah Schober each fired a 5-under 67 and are tied for the top spot on the leaderboard.
