NEW ORLEANS - - The 20th-ranked Tulane women's golf team combined for a 16-over par 304 total during first round action at the 2009 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Golf Championships and sits in a three-way tie for seventh place heading into Saturday's second round at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Green Wave teed off from the 10th hole and played the back nine first before finishing up at the ninth hole on the front nine. Junior Linn Gustafsson led the way on Friday with her team-best 3-over par 75 total, which puts her in a tie for 23rd place.

Freshman Maribel Lopez Porras and junior Janine Fellows are each tied for 31st place after both players carded a 4-over par 76 during their opening round, while sophomore Stephanie Wagstaff made her second tournament appearance of the fall and took a 5-over par 77 to the clubhouse and is tied for 42nd place.

Sophomore Samantha Troyanovich rounded out the Green Wave line-up with a 7-over par 79, which puts her in 73rd place entering the second round.

Tulane sits in a seventh place tie with a pair of Southeastern Conference teams in No. 12 Florida and Arkansas, but is just two strokes out of fifth place and is eight strokes shy of second place.

Host and 18th-ranked Tennessee took advantage of playing on one its home course as three Volunteer players are among the top three individuals as the trio combined for a 6-under par round and helped the team to a 5-under total. Kent State and No. 22 Louisville are each tied for second place at 8-over par, while No. 17 Chattanooga is fourth at 12-over par and No. 24 South Carolina and North Carolina State are each tied for fifth place at 14-over par.

In the individual race, Tennessee's Diana Cantu blazed the field with a 3-under 69, but is just one stroke ahead of teammate Ginny Brown, who fired a 2-under par 70.
