NEW ORLEANS - Freshman Daniela Holmqvist fired a one-under par 71 and sits in a tie for ninth place, while the Green Wave turned in a 16-over par 304 as a team and is in 15th place entering Saturday's second round of the 2008 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.

Playing among a field of 16 nationally ranked teams, Holmqvist was unfazed by her counterparts as she fired three birdies on the front nine and added a fourth on the 17th hole to finish one-under par for the day. Holmqvist is just three shots off the leaders.

Sophomore Janine Fellows was even after her first nine holes, but suffered three bogeys on the back nine to finish with a three-over par 75 for the day and is tied for 35th. Freshman Samantha Troyanovich finished three over par on both the front and back nine and carded a six-over par 78 during her opening round and is three shots behind fellows in 78th place.

Freshman Ashley McKenney and sophomore Linn Gustafsson are in 82nd and 87th places, respectively after McKenney registered an eight-over par 80 and Gustafsson turned in a nine-over par 81.

Tennessee and North Carolina spent much of the first day near the top of the leader board. The Lady Vols took control after the Tar Heels faded on their second nine. Playing the back nine first, UNC shot a 3-under before carding a 4-over on the front. The Tar Heels' score of 289 puts them in second heading into round two. The Lady Vols, starting from the first tee, were two-under on the front nine and 3-under on the back nine.

Rounding out the top team scores, were North Carolina State (290), LSU (291) and Furman (294).

Three players will head into round two tied for the individual lead after carding 4-under 68s. North Carolina's Sydney Crane, North Carolina State's Lauren Doughtie and UCF's Marika Lendl are atop the day one leader board. Lendle shot a 32 for the first nine holes and finished with six birdies. Doughtie had four birdies and an eagle on hole 10, while Crane carded four birdies and no bogeys.
