NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane golf team put together one of its best rounds of the 2011 fall slate with a 5-over 293 total for a 14th place finish and freshman Ines Lescudier led the Wave with an even-round effort during today's final round of the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Tulane entered the day in 14th place but was unable to move its way up the leaderboard despite its efforts. Lescudier was the third straight Green Wave golfer to lead Tulane in as many days as she fired a career-low 72.
Senior Ashley McKenney, who was TU's second round leader, posted a 2-over 72 during her final round and finished with a 5-over 220 total for 29th place.
Junior Maribel Lopez Porras recorded a 2-over 74 score today and finished with a 7-over 223 total for a 44th place finish.
Senior Samantha Troyanovich turned in her best round of the event with a 1-over 73 on Sunday and completed the weekend with an 8-over 224 for 50th place.
Freshman Gemma Dryburgh, who was the Wave's first round leader, registered a 4-over 76 during the final round and turned in a 10-over 226 for 64th place. Lescudier concluded her first collegiate tournament as a part of Tulane's line-up with a 15-over 231 for 81st place.
"Today was a lot better of a round for us and the best of the fall season," Tulane head coach Andrew Pratt said. "All five players really competed and were in the round from start to finish today. Ashley had a good tournament and Ines' round today was huge for us.
"We need to take the momentum from today's round, move forward and build on it. We have one tournament remaining this fall and I think this team is close to breaking through."
Ninth-ranked LSU combined for a 1-under 287 on Sunday and edged eighth-ranked Alabama by four strokes to take home the team title. Sixth-ranked Auburn finished third, fifth-ranked North Carolina was fourth and 14-ranked North Carolina State rounded out the top five squads.
Auburn's Marta Sanz carded a 4-under 68 during Sunday's final round and claimed individual medalist honors with a one stroke victory over three players who finished tied for second.
The Green Wave will close out its fall schedule at The Landfall, Oct. 28-30, at the The Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
