NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's 20th-ranked golf squad put together the best effort during Saturday's second round of the M&F Bank Rebel Collegiate with a combined 2-under 286 total and jumped from seventh into second place at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss.

Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and the TU golfers will head into the last day playing with Coastal Carolina and Baylor. The leaders will tee off from the first hole.

Tulane came out firing today with a balanced attack on the course and strung together perhaps the best overall round of the season. For the day, two golfers finished under par, one was even, one was 1-over and the final Green Wave golfer was 4-over.

Freshman Silvia Garces paced the team with a career-low 2-under 70 and moved into 12th place, while senior Maribel Lopez Porras responded with a 1-under 71 and is 25th place.

Freshman Emily Penttila finished even on the day and sits just outside the top 10 in 12th place, while sophomore Gemma Dryburgh bounced back from an 8-over score on Friday with a 1-over showing today and she is in 54th place.

Freshman Madison Opfer, who tied for the first round lead, shot a 4-over score today, but remains in sixth place heading into the final round.

"We shot 2-under today and everybody played solid. It was a great team effort," Tulane head coach Andrew Pratt said. "This is one of our best rounds of the spring as a group and that's what great teams do. They bounced back after a so-so round yesterday. We'll be in the last group tomorrow, which marks the fourth straight tournament this spring we'll head into the final round in the last group. That really reflects on our golfers and the commitment they have to our program. It should be an exciting day tomorrow."

Coastal Carolina managed to hang on to the lead but will enter Sunday's round just six shots ahead of a hard charging Green Wave group. Baylor is in third place, followed by LSU in fourth and fifth-place East Tennessee State rounds out the top five squads.

Baylor's Hayley Davis took sole possession of the individual leaderboard and is 8-under through 36 holes.
