NEW ORLEANS - For the third straight tournament, Tulane golf team was forced to play 36 holes on the same day and today during the second and final round of the Bancorp South Rebel Intercollegiate the 33rd-ranked Green Wave combined for a 6-over effort 582 total for a third-place finish at the Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss.

Tulane fired an 8-over 296 in the second round, but rebounded with a 2-under 286 during the final round to stay near the top. The Green Wave received a solid effort from sophomore Emily Penttila, who carded a 2-under 214 for the event and turned in a third place finish.

The trio of junior Gemma Dryburgh, sophomore Madison Opfer and freshman Belen Goicoechea each produced a 6-over 222 total for a 25th place finish. Sophomore Silvia Garces went to the clubhouse with a 14-over 230 for 65th place.

Rookie Olivia Winning played as an individual and fired a 9-over 225 for 39th place.

"We dug ourselves a little bit too deep of a hole during today's second round," Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. "We set a goal of shooting under par today. Although we didn't during the second round, we did accomplish the goal in the final round. We had four solid rounds from our scores that counted and it was a good note to finish on as we enter postseason play in a few weeks.

"Emily was super consistent for three rounds, which is exactly what we have been looking for, and she was rewarded with a third place finish. That's fantastic for her."

GRU Augusta took home the team title with a three-stroke win over second place Kennesaw State. Tulane and Kennesaw State tied for third, while East Tennessee State rounded out the top five squads with a fifth place finish.

In the individual race, GRU Augusta's Jessica Haigwood claimed individual medalist honors with a two-stoke win over runner-up Brandi Rodriguez of Southern Miss.

Tulane returns to action when it begins postseason play at the 2014 Conference USA Championships, Monday-Wednesday, April 21-23, at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Green Wave is the defending C-USA Champions.
