NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane golf team got off to a rough start this morning in its spring opener and endured a tough first round with a combined 20-over 308 total and sits in 18th place at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.

Monday's second round will begin with a shotgun start and the Green Wave will be paired with golfers from Wisconsin and East Carolina.

Today, junior Gemma Dryburgh paced Tulane with a 3-over 75 and is 49th place, while sophomore Emily Penttila fired a 4-over 76 and is 78th, followed by classmates Madison Opfer with a 5-over 77 for 78th place and Silvia Garces with an 8-over 80 for 97th place. Freshman Belen Goicoechea went to the clubhouse with 9-over 81 and is 100th.

Host UCF made the most of its home course advantage by jetting out to a 6-under total and holds a 5-stroke lead over second place Miami (Fla.). East Tennessee State is third, followed by GRU Augusta and South Florida, each tied for fourth place.

The Knights opening round run was spurred by first round leader Fanny Cnops, who fired a 5-under 67, and is one stroke ahead of a pair of player entering Monday's second round.
