ALTOONA, Pa. - Taking to the lanes for the first time in almost a month, the Tulane bowling team will participate in the second annual Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational Friday to Sunday at the Holiday Bowl.
The Green Wave has not bowled since the Southern Challenge in Baton Rouge on Nov. 4-6. In that tournament Tulane posted a 2-9 record with wins over Mississippi Valley and Prairie View in baker matches.
Tulane (12-24) is one of eight teams competing this weekend, joining host Saint Francis, New Jersey City, St. Francis (N.Y.), Penn State-Altoona, Medaille, Ursuline and Salem International.
This weekend's format includes five baker matches on Friday, five traditional team matches on Saturday and a championship bracket on Sunday. This season Tulane is 6-9 in team matches and 6-12 in baker matches.
The Green Wave will be without the services of Sarah Knapp who is nursing an injury. Knapp is averaging a team-best 177.5 pins per game this season. Tulane will travel Jessica Cwik, Heather Fraser, Kelsie Kelly, Regina Popova, Victoria Wiseman and Caryn Wong. Cwik is averaging 165.52 pins per game, while Wong is posting a 58.17 average.
"We will be competing on a long 42' pattern this weekend which should play to our strengths," Stevie Weber, Tulane assistant said. "Unfortunately we will be without one of our strongest players, who was unable to make the trip due to injury. However, I am thrilled to have two of our less traveled girls with us. Both the girls and I are looking forward to their opportunity to help the team this weekend."
Following this weekend, Tulane will take almost two months off before competing in the Delaware State Capital Classic in Dover, Del., Feb. 10-12.
