ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Tulane's first-year bowling team hits the road for the second tournament of the season this weekend at the Ormond Lanes for a three-day, 12-team tournament hosted by Bethune-Cookman that begins Friday.
The Green Wave (3-9) competed in the program's first tournament last weekend in Reading, Pa., and posted a 3-7 overall record, including wins over Cheyney and Penn State-Altoona in the Baker format and a victory over PSU-Altoona in the team matches.
"Because this particular format is a little bit longer, we hope to match up better this week than we did last week," Tulane assist Stevie Weber said. "Last week was definitely a learning curve. We are going to take the things we learned and build on and try to capitalize."
The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday with six Baker four-game matches per team. The Wildcat Invitational will resume Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT with six traditional team games for each team, and then wrap on Sunday with two best four-of-seven Bracket matches.
Joining Tulane in the field is host Bethune-Cookman and Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama State, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida A&M, Morgan State, North Carolina A&T, Salem, Southern and South Carolina State. The tournament field features a previous NCAA National Champion, 2011 Final Four team, and two 2011 conference champions.
The Green Wave will travel six players to Florida, including Sarah Knapp, Jessica Cwik, Caryn Wong, Kelsie Kelly, Heather Frazier and Hillary Sullivan. Knapp leads the team with a 178.75 average, while Cwik is averaging 164.25.
Tulane's Baker match against Salem is scheduled to be live streamed at 10 a.m. CT at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lady-wildcat-bowling.
The squad will travel down I-10 next week for the three-day Southern Challenge hosted by Southern in Baton Rouge.
