Bowling Travels to KU Fall Baker Invitational

Oct. 21, 2011

READING, Pa. - Tulane's first-year bowling team hits the road for the first time when they travel to the Northeast for the Kutztown University Fall Baker Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Berks Lanes.

The Green Wave (0-2) bowled against Southern in a dual match to open the season two weeks ago at New Orleans' Rock `N' Bowl and will compete in the program's first tournament this weekend.

14 teams from around the nation are expected to make up the field. The teams will bowl the baker format on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. CT and then will roll the team competition on Sunday.

"Travelling for the first time is exciting for everyone," Tulane head coach Hayley Beavis said. "The girls are enthusiastic about competing this weekend. The tournament has 14 teams competing so it will be an experience as to what to expect for the rest of the season."

Five Tulane bowlers will take to the lanes in the tournament led by Sarah Knapp. Knapp averaged a 197.3 against Southern to earn the top individual bowler of the match. Jessica Cwik, Kelsie Kelly, Caryn Wong and Heather Fraser complete line-up.

"As long as we can get over a few nerves the girls are throwing the ball very well," Beavis added. "The match against southern certainly gave a little insight as to what to expect and hopefully the girls can take what they learnt there to enhance their performance this weekend."

After this weekend the Green Wave will travel to Ormond Beach, Fla., Oct. 28-30 for the three-day Wildcat Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman.
