May 30, 2012

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane bowling coach Hayley Beavis announced Hannah Ryan has become the first signee for the fledgling program as she signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Green Wave as a freshman in the fall of 2013.

Ryan, from Benton High School in Benton, La., bowled for coach Earlene Winham for the Tigers.

"I am really excited to add Hannah to the roster for next season," Beavis said. "She has a lot of natural talent and potential with her bowling. I can't wait to be able to coach her and she her grow throughout her college bowling career. Hannah will be a great asset to the team as she comes with a lot of experience having competed in high school bowling as well as various youth tournaments including Junior Gold."

Ryan, who has been bowling for 10 years, placed third at the 2007-08 Alabama State Games and earned the 2008-09 Central Alabama Youth Bowler of the Year and second team All-State prior to moving to Louisiana.

She was named first team all-District in Louisiana in 2010 and placed third place in the Louisiana High School State Singles competition and also earned a third-place finish at the Louisiana Grand Prix.

In 2011 she received first team all-District honors and once again placed third in the Louisiana High School State Singles competition. Ryan also won the Division II Louisiana Youth State Tournament Doubles Championship.

Ryan joins the Green Wave roster that returns five bowlers from the inaugural season.

"She has a bubbly and fun personality and will fit in well with the current team members," Beavis said.

Tulane posted a 16-65 in the program's first season, including seven wins at the Bethune-Cookman Wild Cat Invitational in October.
