ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Tulane's first-year bowling team posted a 2-4 record in Baker games on the first day of the 2011 Bethune-Cookman Wildcat Invitational on Friday morning at the Ormond Lanes.
The Green Wave (5-13) rolled six Baker games Friday and defeated Salem, 569-471, in game two, and bowled past Alabama State, 676-657, in game five. The Baker matches are decided by total pin fall with five bowlers rolling two frames of the 10 frames.
"Overall we had good day, thought our record doesn't reflect it," Tulane assistant Stevie Weber said. "We left a lot of pins out there which would have helped our total, but the brightest part of the day was shooting our highest total in the final game on the last match, no less against one of the most talented teams in the country. That tells me there is no give up in this team which will go a long way in our development this year".
Overall, Tulane totaled 3,765 pins on Friday, the eighth most among the 12 teams competing.
Saturday will feature five matches of team competition. The Green Wave will roll against Florida A&M in game one, host Bethune-Cookman in game two, South Carolina State in game three, UAB in game five and Morgan State in game six. Tulane will not bowl in game five.
