KENNER, La. - Tulane's bowling team posted a pair of tournament wins and moved up two spots to finish eighth in Sunday's bracket play during the third and final day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational at the AMF All Star Lanes.
The Green Wave (4-8) entered the tournament as the No. 10 seed, but defeated Jackson State, 4-3, in the best of seven Baker game format in the opening round. Tulane then knocked off 19th-ranked Prairie View A&M, 4-3, in the second round to clinch at least an eight-place finish.
In the final game of the day, Tulane fell to Alabama A&M, 4-1, to finish eighth. Alabama A&M earned the seventh-place finish with the victory.
"I was pleased with the way we came out today and didn't let the way we played yesterday affect us," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "I am a little disappointed in the way we finished though. We left a lot of pins out there. That is something we will need to improve upon as the season progresses."
Ninth-ranked Stephen F. Austin defeated sixth-ranked Sam Houston and claimed the tournament title.
Alabama State placed third and Texas Southern was fourth.
Tulane will return to the lanes on Nov. 8-10 at the Valpo Crusader Classic in Merryville, Ind.
