HOUSTON - The Tulane bowling team recorded six wins over the three-day Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State this past weekend at the Palace Lanes.
The Green Wave (28-52) opened the weekend with three wins on Friday in the Baker total pin format. Tulane defeated Monmouth, 730-718, Grambling State, 608-473, and Southern, 734-666.
Day two on Saturday was not as successful for the Green Wave with only on victory in the team format. Tulane rolled past Jackson State, 954-928, in the second game of the afternoon. Caryn Wong led way with a 181.3 average and knocked down a total of 1,088 pins in six games. She finished 48th among the 122 bowlers in the field. Hannah Harrison averaged 179.4 to place 54th and Jessica Stricklin posted a 178.6 average for a 55th-place finish.
Tulane claimed a pair of wins in the final day on Sunday. The Green Wave defeated UAB, 709-693, in the Baker format and then closed the tournament with a victory over Jackson State.
"Unfortunately, we had a mediocre performance, but had some periods of great bowling," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "There were a lot of matches we lost by 30 pins or less and we had a few close matches with some top ranked teams so we have to learn how to push through and grind more to achieve these wins."
Tulane will close out the season on March 7-9 at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University in Smyrna, Ga.
