NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Both teams are riding 10-game winning streaks. Both teams are ranked among the nation's Top 25. And it will be a showdown worthy of a high noon start.

It will be a Battle on the Bayou on Friday, as the 24th-ranked Tulane women's basketball team plays host to No. 11 LSU at Fogelman Arena. Tip-off is set for 12 noon in a contest that will be both squad's final before hitting conference play full time next week. It will be the first time in series history that both schools are ranked heading into the game.

Tulane (10-0) enters its final contest of the 20th century riding a school-record 10-game winning streak. The Green Wave have also won 15 straight non-conference home games dating back the 1997-98 season, and is 27-3 in non-conference contests at Fogelman Arena under head coach Lisa Stockton. Like the Wave, LSU (10-1) enters Friday's game with 10 consecutive wins, as the Lady Tigers are undefeated since a season-opening loss to then-No. 23 Texas Tech.

This will be the 21st straight year the two teams have met and the 22nd overall meeting between the in-state rivals, with LSU holding a 20-2 advantage in the all-time series. However, both Tulane wins have come in the last five seasons under Lisa Stockton and the Green Wave were 65-54 winners on Nov. 29, 1997 - the last time the two teams met in Fogelman Arena. Last year, in the season-opener for both teams, LSU posted an 81-54 win in Baton Rouge.

Tulane is ranked 24th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll and is ranked 24th in the Associated Press poll. LSU checks in at 11th in the latest AP poll and 16th in the latest coaches voting.

Following Friday's game, Tulane returns to action on Monday, January 3, with a 7 p.m. showdown with Conference USA rival Southern Miss at Fogelman Arena.
