Dec. 26, 2010
NEW ORLEANS - Due to travel issues forced by inclement weather, the Green Wave women's basketball program has adjusted the original schedule of the 2010 Tulane/DoubleTree Classic. Originally slated to be held from Dec. 28-29, the two-day, four-game tournament will now take place from Dec. 29-30 in Fogelman Arena.
The four participating teams remain the same as do the original head-to-head matchups. But instead of Tulane taking on Nicholls State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., the teams will open the DoubleTree Classic on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Fogelman Arena.
Following the Green Wave/Colonel matchup, Charlotte will take on Old Dominion on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The two winning teams from Dec. 29's contests will square off in the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic championship game on Thursday at 3 p.m. while the consolation contest will be held at 1 p.m.
The 2010-11 season marks the 15th season of the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic and the Green Wave are 25-3 in the annual event. Tulane has gone on to win the tournament 11 times, earning team titles from 1996-2002 and again in 2004, 2006, and from 2008-09.
Last season, the Green Wave opened the DoubleTree Classic with an 82-59 win over Long Island on Dec. 28, 2009, before rolling past Texas Tech in the championship game, 67-49. Then-junior Danielle Nunn was named Most Valuable Player while teammate Tiffany Aidoo earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Thursday's Tulane/DoubleTree Classic contests are the first two of three games held in Fogelman Arena on Dec. 30 as the Green Wave's men's team will take on Lamar at 7 p.m.
Single-game tickets to future home contests are available through the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office. Floor seats are $15 while reserve and general-admission tickets can be purchased for $10 and $5, respectively. In addition, groups of 10 or more fans can purchase reserved tickets for $8 each and general admission seats go for $3 each.
