NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane all-American guard Grace Daley has been named Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Daley, a native of Ocala, Fla., earned Player of the Week honors after averaging 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in leading Tulane (6-1) to wins over Auburn and Texas A&M. The Green Wave have now won six straight games, as Daley has scored in double figures in five of those six contests.
Against Auburn on Sunday, Daley scored a game-high 19 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, but perhaps more impressively, grabbed nine rebounds against the nation's top-ranked rebounding team. She nailed two free throws with 35 seconds left to push the game to a three-possession contest for Auburn, as Tulane won 64-53.
Against Texas A&M, Daley was 8-of-11 from the free throw line and had a game-high 20 points, as the Green Wave posted a 66-61 win over the Aggies. She hit six of eight free throws when the game was on the line, as Tulane fought off a Texas A&M comeback attempt.
For the week, Daley hit 50 percent of her shots (11-of-22) and was an impressive 14-of-17 from the free throw line (.824).
Monday's honor marked the third time Daley has earned Conference USA Player of the Week plaudits, as the junior was also selected as the league's top player on Feb. 9, 1998 and Feb. 17, 1997.
