NEW ORLEANS - One day after celebrating a happy homecoming during the Green Wave's 66-64 overtime win at LSU, Tulane University women's basketball standout Whitney Bibbins was named Conference USA Player of the Week the league announced on Monday.

A redshirt-sophomore forward from Baton Rouge who spent her days as a prepster on the LSU campus at University High, Bibbins tied for team-high scoring honors with 13 points including a pair of free throws with 10.2 seconds left in the extra period to help put the game away. The weekly honor was the first of the season for a Tulane student-athlete and the second of Bibbins' career as she claimed C-USA Freshman of the Week distinction on Feb. 22, 2010.

Nine of Bibbins' points came after halftime and her two free throws in overtime capped a 9-0 run that saw the Green Wave turn a 62-57 deficit into a 66-62 lead. In addition, she added five rebounds and a blocked shot to the Tulane effort. Her swat came in the final minute of regulation when she blocked a would-be layup by LSU's Bianca Utley to preserve a 53-53 tie and send the game into overtime.

For the season, Bibbins is averaging a team-high 10.4 points per game to go with 4.8 rebounds 1.0 assist and 0.7 blocks per contest. She missed all of last season and the first three games of the 2012-13 campaign due to injury, but has made up for lost time with four double-digit scoring contests in the last five outings.

Bibbins and the Green Wave return to action on Dec. 19 when Tulane plays host to Louisiana-Lafayette at 11 a.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse. That will be the first of a six-game homestand as Tulane will play North Texas on Dec. 22, host the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic on Dec. 29-30, battle Loyola on Jan. 7 and open the Conference USA portion of its schedule against SMU on Jan. 10.

The Ticket Office is located on the first floor of the Wilson Center on Ben Weiner Drive, and tickets can be purchased in person, over the phone at 504-861-WAVE (9283) or via the Internet at www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
