On the tournament itself
"It's exciting this time of year to do something a little different. We had a longer travel day, we're in a different environment and these teams are teams that we wouldn't ordinarily see. We're going to the Grand Canyon today and I think that'll be fun for the team, and we'll come back and play some teams that will challenge us in different ways."
On playing at 6,000 feet altitude
"I think it'll definitely affect us and this will be one of those times where depth is really important. We've been able to use a lot of different players, which is something that we hope will be a positive for us. It's all adversity. Going against different teams in different environments in different circumstances prepares you for the rest of the season. That's why you want to travel. We're excited and I think it's going to be a fun tournament."
On this weekend's games being the third and fourth of a four-game road swing
"You need to be good on the road. We've talked a lot about the conference tournament where you play in different venues, you don't know who your opponents are, you don't know if you're home or away, all of this prepares you for those kind of things and hopefully you're playing for the NCAA Tournament at the end. All of it is adjustments and being able to adjust."
On Tulane having a tough time in tournament openers in recent years
"We're a pretty good program so we're not matched up against the home team. In the last few years, we haven't ever been matched up with the home team so they're going to match the two better teams against each other in the early rounds. Sometimes in these tournaments our biggest challenge is the first round. That's one thing that you get by going on the road like this - you get a neutral game against a pretty good team. If you win that one, the next one might be easier."
On what she wants to see from her team during the weekend
"We have made progression from Louisiana Tech to Southern. We've gotten better. Offensively, we've gotten into a rhythm. Defensively, we've gained some momentum. That's what you want. You want each game to build on the others. So far, we've done that and we want to do that here. The officiating might be different here, there are a lot of things that might be different but we need to adjust. We've got a huge game against Auburn going back (home) so hopefully we're a better team playing Auburn than we were when we left New Orleans."
On if she plans to tinker with the line-up at all during the Thanksgiving Tournament
"I think we'll start with the same group, but we do hope to see Whitney Bibbins for the first time in a year. We've excited about that and that will be just another piece of the puzzle that we're trying to put together. She gives us a different dimension defensively, she's obviously a great rebounder and can score. It'll be exciting to see her play again."
On how her team has been gelling since the start of preseason practice
"I think that's a challenge for us. We knew going into the season that we had a lot of pieces. It's putting it all together that can be tough and I think we're starting to do that. I felt more comfortable at Southern with it than I did with Louisiana Tech and we're just building on it. This isn't an easy thing. If you have five players, you know the five players that are going to play and you just have to work with them. We're not in that position. If we can do it right, I think it's going to be a real asset for us when we get later in the season."
