Women's Basketball To Celebrate 20 Years Under Lisa Stockton

Oct. 15, 2013

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University Athletics Department will celebrate the 20th season of head coach Lisa Stockton at the helm of the Green Wave women's basketball team with a social on Friday, Oct. 25, and a meet-and-greet in conjunction with the football game against Tulsa followed by a banquet on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The social and banquet are reserved for former women's basketball student-athletes. However, Stockton and the alumni will be available for photos and autographs prior to the Green Wave's gridiron contest against the Golden Hurricane at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The group will be available for fan interaction at a tailgating tent in Garage 5 before the contest, and following kickoff, will be recognized during a break in the action.

"Lisa has established the Tulane University women's basketball program as the gold standard for Conference USA and nationally," Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson said. "She has recruited and developed young women who strive for achievements of excellence within the core values of scholarship, sport and service. To achieve what she has entering her 20th season here is remarkable and to be celebrated."

The dean of Conference USA coaches, Stockton enters the 2013-14 season as the all-time winningest coach in both Tulane and C-USA women's basketball history with a 396-193 record. In addition, Stockton holds a mark of 170-106 in C-USA games since the league was formed prior to the 1995-96 campaign, which is a high-water mark among conference coaches. Her win total is nearly twice as many as each of the previous Green Wave coaches earned in the 19 years the program played at the varsity level prior to Stockton's arrival in uptown New Orleans.

Along the way, Stockton led Tulane to the postseason 14 times -10 trips to the NCAA Tournament and four berths in the WNIT - while claiming conference Coach of the Year honors three times (Metro in 1995, C-USA in 2007 and 2010). In addition, Stockton has guided the Green Wave to four C-USA regular season championships (1996-97, 1998-99, 2006-07 and 2009-10) and the tournament titles on five occasions (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2010).

Stockton is one of four active coaches to take a Top 60 academic institution as listed in U.S. & World Report to at least 10 NCAA Tournaments. Seventeen of her student-athletes have become members of Tulane's 1,000-Point Club and the Green Wave have averaged better than 20 wins in each of Stockton's previous 19 seasons.

Stockton and the Green Wave open the 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8, when they play host to the University of New Orleans at 6 p.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse. That contest is the first half of a Tulane double-header as the men's team will square off against New Jersey Institute of Technology at approximately 8 p.m.
