Tulane Hosts C-USA Tourney First First Time Since 1999

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane senior point guard Ashley Langford was named Third Team All-Conference USA, while freshman center Brett Benzio was named to the All-Freshmen Team. Langford is the second player in C-USA history to reach 700 career assists and is Tulane's career leader.

The Harrisburg, Pa. native took only 69 games to break Tulane's all-time assist record and sits with 706 through 119 career games. She ranks second in C-USA this season in assists per game, and 20th nationally, with 5.60. She owns all four of Tulane's single season assists records, and 10 of the top 12 game marks, including two 14-assist games.

Tulane's all-time leader in games started, her 119th-straight start streak is the fifth longest among active players. She also ranks fifth all-time at Tulane in steals with 224, and is Tulane's second leading career free throw shooter at .843.

Benzio entered last weekend as the nation's leading freshman rebounder, and ranks second among rookies in the NCAA at 9.3 rebounds per game. Her 279 rebounds this season are fifth-most in Tulane single-season history. She has eight double-doubles this season and was averaging a double-double before being limited due to a bout with mono early in conference play.

Her 8.7 points per game is tied for fourth on the team. The Palm City, Fla., native ranks fifth in C-USA in rebounding (9.3 RPG) and blocked shots (1.57 per game, 47 total), and 10th in field goal percentage (.477). Of her rebounds, she ranks third in C-USA in defensive boards (6.80 PG) and 11th in offensive rebounds (2.50 PG).

Tulane opens the C-USA Women's Basketball Championship at home at Fogelman Arena on Thursday against Tulsa. The Green Wave (17-13 overall, 9-7 C-USA) are the sixth seed in the tournament and take on the 11-seeded Golden Hurricane at 5:30 p.m. The winner advances to Friday's quarterfinals against third-seeded Southern Miss.

Tulane's Fogelman Arena is the tournament's host site for the second time in C-USA history. The Green Wave hosted the 1999 edition of the event, taking the tournament title and the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The 1999 squad remains the only team in C-USA history to win the tournament on its home floor.
