NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave women's basketball team concludes a four-game road swing on Thursday at East Carolina. The defending C-USA regular season champion Wave and the defending tournament champion Pirates tip off at 6 p.m. CT at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville. The two teams who battled a top the Conference USA standings last season enter Thursday contest with records one game from .500. The Green Wave (11-10 overall) sit in tenth in C-USA at 1-7, amidst the first seven-game losing streak in the 14-year tenure of head coach Lisa Stockton. East Carolina (10-11 overall) is tied for sixth in C-USA at 4-4 after opening the season at 6-11 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Pirates four-game win streak features wins over Tulsa, Marshall, Southern Miss and UCF. Tulane looks to snap a four-game road slide, dating back to a January 6 loss at Houston. The Green Wave have forced 71 turnovers forced in the last three games and have forced 20 or more turnovers in nine games this season. The Green Wave are second in C-USA with 20.5 miscues forced per game in conference games, including 29 against Tulsa. Chassity Brown and the Tulane defenders will seek to capitalize against an ECU squad that averages 19.9 miscues a game. Brown leads Tulane with 39 steals on the season, including 32 since being added to the starting lineup 13 games ago. While averaging 2.5 steals per contest in that stretch, she has turned those steals into an easy 23 points at the other end. Junior point guard Ashley Langford, Tulane's all-time assist leader, is just seven assists shy of becoming the fifth player in C-USA history to reach 500 career assists. She ranks sixth in C-USA in assists all-time, and can move into fifth with just five more.
Following the East Carolina contest Tulane returns home to Fogelman Arena on Sunday, February 10 against Marshall. The Green Wave will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day with a variety of activities prior to Sunday's at 1 p.m. tip against the Thundering Herd.
