Women's Basketball Road Trip Continues Thursday at Tulsa

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave women's basketball team continues its four-game road swing with Conference USA contests at Tulsa Thursday at 7 p.m.; and at SMU on Saturday at 2 p.m. Senior forward Alendra Brown is averaging 10.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in her last seven games.
Tulane (11-8 overall, 1-5 Conference USA) looks to get on track in Conference USA after dropping its last five in a row. The Green Wave will face a pair of teams they swept last season in Tulsa and SMU. Tulsa enters the game at 8-11 overall, but 4-2 in Conference USA. Tulsa struggled in non-conference play, but has reeled off C-USA wins over SMU, Southern Miss, UCF and SMU again. Tulsa has yet to play C-USA leader UTEP, while two of the Green Wave's conference losses are at the hand of the Miners. The Green Wave, after a 10-3 non-conference slate (including a win over a Kansas State squad currently ranked No. 21) have dropped five of six in C-USA action. Tulane and Tulsa have played separate sides of the C-USA schedule, with zero common opponents entering the contest. Last season, the Wave defeated Tulsa 78-70 at home on Senior Day behind 11 points and five rebounds from Brown, and 10 points and six assists from Ashley Langford. In the meeting in Oklahoma, the Wave prevailed, 75-62, as Brown scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and added six rebounds. Guard Nikki Luckhurst added eight points on a pair of three-pointers. Tulane is 7-0 when shooting at a higher field goal percentage than its opponent in 2007-08, while Tulsa is 0-10 when out-shot by an opponent. Tulane enters the game with a .399 field goal percentage on the season, compared to Tulsa's .384. Tulane owns a 3-2 edge over Tulsa in the all-time series, splitting four games since Tulsa joined Conference USA for the 2005-06 season. Tulane and Tulsa tip-off Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. From there, the Green Wave battle SMU on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs are off to a 14-5 start, including 4-2 in C-USA entering their Thursday tilt with UTEP. SMU boars wins over UCF, Southern Miss, East Carolina (in overtime) and Marshall. Likewise, SMU and Tulane have no common league opponents. Outside of conferene, both teams own a win over Stephen F. Austin. Last season, Tulane downed SMU 63-58 in Dallas on ESPN2. Dominique Philpots scored all eight of her points in the second half, adding four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Langford added eight points and four steals to go with four assists. Tulane clinched at least a share of the 2006-07 Conference USA in the second-to-last game of the season against SMU, with a 78-72 win at Fogelman Arena. Kendra Barnes scored seven points to go with eight rebounds and Philpots added six points and five boards. Tulane, which struggled with turnovers in last Saturday's contest at UTEP will face a SMU team that enters the week second in C-USA (behind UTEP) with 10.26 steals per game. SMU leads C-USA in turnover margin at +4.53. The Wave rank fourth at +1.42. The Green Wave lead the all-time series with SMU 11-6. Tulane looks to avoid tying its longest losing streak ever in 14 years under head coach Lisa Stockton. Tulane dropped six in a row in 2004 and 2005, all Conference USA losses. All-time, the Green Wave have just six losing streaks of six games or more. |
