Her thoughts on Tulane's 65-64 overtime loss to UTEP on Sunday
"First of all, our offense has been a little inconsistent. That is something that we've struggled with a little bit throughout the whole season. When we get opportunities to get to the line, I think that we're very successful there. They play an aggressive defense, they go 11 deep and they pressure you. I don't think we had a lot of great looks at the basket. It was a very physical game. We have to do a better job of executing. Our defense gave us a chance to win and we just didn't take advantage of it."
On UAB's defensive effort to date
"They emphasize defense like we do. I think they're physical. For us, we need to make sure we take care of the ball, we need to get the best shots that we can get and be patient on offense. Sometimes when teams play you aggressively, you try to shoot so quickly. For us, we've got to be patient and get the best shot that we can get within that 30 seconds."
On the difference between this year's team and last year's team
"It's two different teams. We had all seniors last year, and also the schedule is different. When you look at the teams that were picked in the top four in the league, we've played them all and we played two of them on the road. I think that's a factor. Having youth, we can be inconsistent. We've gone from a team with four senior starters to one with two or three freshmen starters. That's a big change for us. For us, it's a matter of just trying to get better every day and trying to correct our weaknesses. Our goal is to be the best team we can be by the time we go to Memphis (for the C-USA Championship). That's what we're working for."
On her goal in practice so far this season
"Showing them the ways we can get better. Within the style that we play, what are the things we can do better? What are the things we can do to prevent losing those close games like that? Education is the biggest thing right now. See what we do well, see what we haven't done well and improve on those."
On facing a UAB team that enters with a head of steam and is 4-0 in C-USA play so far
"I don't think our conference is easy at all and on any given night any team can beat you. It's nice to be at home. That certainly is a positive for us. I think it's a challenge because they're going to be really aggressive on defense and we're going to have to handle that without turning the ball over."
On UAB's improvement since the last time the two teams squared off against each other
"I think they've done a great job of using the skills of the players that they have. Their players, when you look at who is playing well for them, I think they've gotten so much better within the last year. Audra has done a great job of finding something they do well and keying on that."
On Tulane not scoring a lot of fast-break points this season
"I think we've got to convert. We've had the opportunities. We're just not converting on them. We've had a lot of run-outs. We had a lot of opportunities in there and we just haven't converted on them. That's something that I don't think we've done a very good job of this year. When you compare this year's team to last year's team, I thought that was where we were at our best - in transition. That's something that is basketball knowledge. It's spacing, timing of passes and things like that. That is something that we work on every day."
