Green Wave guard Leslie Vorpahl claimed her second Conference USA Freshman of the Week title after averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game during Tulane's 2-0 start to the league season.

NEW ORLEANS - After helping the Tulane University women's basketball team open its league slate with a 2-0 performance, Green Wave guard Leslie Vorpahl was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week as voted on by a select panel of media and coaches.
Vorpahl earned the weekly title after averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals during Tulane's 77-61 win at Marshall on Thursday and the 92-62 victory at Old Dominion on Saturday. Monday's honor was the second of the season for the native of San Antonio, Texas, as Vorpahl claimed C-USA rookie honors back on Nov. 25. She becomes just the second Green Wave player to earn multiple the league's Freshman of the Week titles, joining fellow San Antonio native and current junior Danielle Blagg, who earned the distinction four times during the 2011-12 campaign.
For the week, Vorpahl connected on 55.6 percent of her field goals (10-of-18), including a 6-of-11 showing from beyond the 3-point arch (.545), and 75.0 percent of her free throws (3-of-4). She did not commit a single turnover while playing an average of 28.5 minutes off the bench during last week's games.
Vorpahl opened the week with 11 points three assists, two assists, a blocked shot and a career-high six rebounds at Marshall, connecting on 4-of-7 field goals (.571) and 3-of-6 treys (.500) in the win. She followed that up with 18 points, four rebounds, one steal and a career-best nine assists in the 30-point victory at Old Dominion. In the game against the Monarchs, Vorpahl hit 6-of-11 field goals (.545), 3-of-5 3-pointers (.600) and 3-of-4 free throws (.750).
Through 15 games to date, the true freshman leads the team with an 80.5 free throw percentage while ranking second on the squad with 20 3-point baskets, 51 assists and 19 steals. She also ranks second on the team in minutes played (416) and minutes per game (27.7), third in points scored (153), 3-point percentage (.351) and free throws made (33), and fourth in both points per game (10.2) and field goals made (50) to go with 3.1 rebounds per contest.
Vorpahl and the Green Wave return to action on Wednesday, Jan.15, when the Green Wave play host to East Carolina at 7 p.m. in Devlin Fieldhouse. That contest is the first of a two-game homestand as Tulane will take on Southern Miss on Saturday, Jan. 18, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
