Quotes Following Tulane's 67-49 DoubleTree Classic Win Over Texas Tech

Dec. 29, 2009

Recap |  Final Stats

TULANE HEAD COACH Lisa Stockton

Overall thoughts on the game
"I'm so proud of this group. They just found a way no matter what's come our way - even foul trouble tonight. This was a game they were really excited about. I never saw any nerves. They came out focused and got it done."

On if she viewed tonight's game as a chance to make a statement
"We talked about that with the team, that this is an opportunity game. It's one that we can make a statement with. The Big 12 is the No. 1 conference in the country. We would like to make a statement with it because Texas Tech is such a good team. I never would have anticipated this kind of margin (of victory)."

On the Green Wave defense forcing 13 steals
"I think the one thing that the steals did - even when we didn't convert them into scores - was it took the ball out of their hands. They're such an efficient offensive team. At least it gave them less opportunities. Obviously, our biggest weakness tonight was rebounding because our size. The turnovers made the difference."

On the health of Brett Benzio, who played 17 minutes off the bench tonight
"Brett could have gone longer, but with that kind of lead we didn't want her to go through anything. She was doing well and I thought she looked good running up and down the court tonight. We're going to take it easy for her and see how she does. I think we'll have everyone healthy - both Brittany and Brett - for Houston."

On what has been the key to Tulane winning eight games in a row
"It's chemistry. This team has great chemistry and the one thing I told them in the locker room was `don't forget how you got here.' They work hard, there's no selfishness and that kind of chemistry can beat talent many times."

TULANE JUNIOR FORWARD Danielle Nunn

On if she was frustrated by not scoring in the first half
"It wasn't the scoring, it was the fouls. I had quick, early fouls. Because I'm a defender, so it takes me out of everything. It wasn't so much scoring, but now my defensive game was set back. It was kinda like I had to make up for it in the second half and take it to them."

On tonight's opponent, the Texas Tech Red Raiders
"This is a very good Texas Tech team, so give them a lot of credit. But we bond together as a team. This was a big game for us and as the season goes on so it was a resume builder. We just wanted to come out here, play and show that we can compete as a Conference USA team."

On earning MVP and starting her first two games of the year in the DoubleTree Classic
"It was good to get out there and play. We play as a team and that's the most important thing. No matter what spot we're in, we're know we are capable of doing great things."

On the performance of the Tulane defense
"That's what we do - pressure. That's what we do in practice. We get up and we pressure each other. It's about being in the right place at the right time. It doesn't matter who gets the steal, we know we'll have each others' backs at the end of the game."

TEXAS TECH HEAD COACH KRISTY CURRY

On the Red Raiders committing 27 turnovers
"We did the same thing last night. We aren't taking good care of the basketball and I think it all starts on the perimeter with their energy. We're having a lot of post turnovers but a lot of that comes from decision making. We're not putting them in a position o be successful. It's just disappointing. It's a learning opportunity and you just keep growing from it."

On out-rebounding Tulane 46-31
"We're not getting any productivity from the offensive glass. You get an offensive rebound and we're passive. The defense is set on the offensive glass, so you've got to be aggressive. A lot of our turnovers are us being passive. We have to be more aggressive."
