Quotes Following Tulane's 51-45 Win Over Indiana State

Head Coach Lisa Stockton

Overall thoughts on the game
"Indiana State came out very aggressive and ready to play. It was an aggressive game for 40 minutes. We really started flat and kind of had to fight out of that. I'm really proud of our defense. I thought we did a nice job defensively down the stretch. Even when our shots weren't falling we got back, played defense and held them to one shot."

On what she told her team after falling behind 8-0 early on
"We just talked about increasing our intensity. We started so lackadaisical and it felt that we really had to up that. In the game yesterday, our transition as good, our defense was on it but we looked a little slow. We came out (after the timeout) and were more aggressive after that."

On the team winning its fifth-straight game this season and the sixth-straight Tulane/DoubleTree Classic title
"It's one thing we're very proud of here because we've had good teams in the tournament. Northwestern, a Big 10 team, wasn't in the finals and I think that shows you the quality of play we have here. We've been able to bring some great teams in here and the fact that our team has been able to come from Christmas, come back and stay focused - there is a lot going on in the city right now - so it's a good win for us and we're proud of coming away with a championship."

On her team responding after Indiana State rallied to tie the game at38-all with 10:47 left to play
"We just started doing the things we do well. We played better defense. We rebounded better. We felt that Indiana State rebounded so well and we were giving up shots inside the paint on put-backs, so we stopped that and then we got our transition going a little bit. We got some easy baskets instead of having to work for so many."

On the final non-conference game of the regular season next Sunday against LSU
"It's a big game and I like where it falls this year. It's nice to have that as our last non-conference game before we start conference play. It's also nice to be at home. It's a Sunday, so I hope we can get a really good crowd in here. They're ranked this year, which is kind of nice. It gets our players attention, but it's a game that we go into very confidently. They're a good team and hopefully we'll be ready to go. It'll be an exciting basketball game.

Junior Point Guard Jamie Kaplan

On today's win over the Sycamores
"The team played great today. Like Coach said, we started off a little slow but once we got settled down I think we executed our plays well. The defense really stepped up, especially in the second half. Tierra Jones made some huge plays down the stretch. Everyone really stepped up and that made a huge difference in the game."

On being able to get to the basket and get some big points when the team needed them
"We thought that would be the case. The coaches said that we were going to be able to get to the rim. Indiana State is a great team. They weren't necessarily as big as some of the teams that we've played, so we were able to put our head down, get to the rim and get some easy baskets that way."

On Tulane's inside-out game working in today's game
"It's huge because if we can get the ball inside and score there, then that opens up the outside for 3-point shooters like Danielle (Blagg) and our other players. We go inside-out a lot and that makes it harder for the other team to defend us."

On the physical nature of today's game
"It was definitely physical, especially as the game went on. As the game gets closer and the game is on the line, people get way more aggressive. I thought we handled it well. Again, Tierra Jones handled it great. She got us the ball back a lot of times. You just have to be tough in these types of games and I think we definitely did that today."

Junior Forward Tiffany Dale

On her performance off the bench during the Tulane/DoubleTree Classic
"I definitely went in there with confidence. I wanted to do the things I do well, which is my defense, and let my offense run from there. Coach talked a lot about rebounds so I wanted to go out and do that. We knew we were going to have big girls on the boards and made sure. Coach also talks about toughness, and Tierra (Jones) definitely made sure that I wasn't going out there and not giving my all. Rebounding was the key. I made sure my defense started my offense."

On the Indiana State Sycamores and the way they played this weekend
"They're a tough team but I think overall we're a better team. Coach prepared us on what we needed to do well out there. We tried to execute. Overall, I thought we played very well. We executed the offense, we did good things on defense and that put us ahead in the game."
