Head Coach Lisa Stockton
Overall thoughts on the game
"I thought we did a lot of good things defensively in the first half. We just didn't shoot well at all. We had open shots and just didn't hit them. In the second half, we did a lot better job of just finding the most open shot we could get and turning over the ball less. Those two things were the key."
On if she felt fortunate to be tied with College of Charleston at halftime
"I did. Our defense is pretty good so we know we can usually count on that. Offensively, it was a case of us just trying to get our rhythm. We made a run right before the half that got us even with them. The thing we felt the best about was we knew we didn't play well offensively and knew we had to make sure we got some better shots in the second half."
On Tulane's second-half effort against the Cougars
"Our press got going and we got some steals off our press. We tried to create some offense from our defense and that really helped a lot. Getting those easy baskets and getting to the free throw line early in the second half really gave us the lead and we were able to hang on."
On Tulane turning the ball over in the first half
"In the first half, they had 23 points and 11 were off turnovers. Once again, our defense was good. We just had to take care of the ball. In the second half, we were a little more steady. We had a few turnovers in the middle there but nothing that really led to scores like they did in the first half."
On Danielle Blagg's performance against College of Charleston
"I thought Danielle played a really good floor game. She got a lot of rebounds and hit some shots when we needed them. They went into the zone and we were able to hit some 3s on it. That really changed the pace of the game."
On to what she can contribute the Green Wave's sluggish start
"I think we've had a few games were we came out sluggish. We came out a little bit like we did against Southern. I thought College of Charleston did a good job of taking advantage of it. When we turned the ball over, they scored. We came out with not as much energy as we needed. In the second half, it was a little bit of a different team. This has always been one of those times when you just have to keep your focus. I think it was probably a five-day layover and trying to get back in it."
Junior Guard Olivia Grayson
On her individual performance against the Cougars
"I just did what I needed to do to help us get the win. We were struggling a little bit shooting the ball. We have been off for a couple of days and worked to get the rust off a little bit. We came out a little slow."
On Tulane struggles shooting the ball early on
"We just had one of those nights. Everybody has them. We were getting open looks and just weren't knocking them down. We were missing layups and shots that we normally make. We'll hit those. We just had to relax, take our time and focus on our technique of the shot."
On the Green Wave's last five minutes of the first half and first five of the second half
"We just picked up the intensity on defense. We really focused on our defense to turn into offense. We weren't shooting the ball well so we figured if we get some steals, some break-away layups and some wide-open shots, we'd knock those down. We just focused on our energy and intensity."
On what Coach Stockton told the team at halftime
"She told us about our turnovers and that we had to take care of the ball because most of their points came off our turnovers. If we took away those turnovers, they wouldn't even be in the game with us. We focused on that and came out better in the second half."
