Head Coach Lisa Stockton
Overall thoughts on the game
"I thought it was going to be a defensive battle because both teams really focus on that. We gave up 22 offensive rebounds in the game and still came out the winner. It was a good performance. Our defense has really been the anchor of our team. The Mississippi State was the exception in that they got some shots, but tonight were back to our old selves as far as being able to defend and take some things away from the other team."
On Tulane's defensive effort against the Mean Green
"The first thing I said to the team afterwards was `very good job on defense.' I hate to give up those offensive rebounds, but it was a very good job on defense. We held them to 47 points and (six) of them were banked threes. Our defense has really created these wins for us. They're enabling us to win. Our offense has to come around. The nice thing is that different players step up different nights. We never know who it's going to be, so I know the other team doesn't know who it's going to be."
On the performance of freshmen Tiffany Dale and Jamie Kaplan
"When you look at it, the freshmen were both 6-for-11 (from the field). It was a tremendous performance by them. They're getting some great minutes in these games and they're coming through for us. They're coming through and making big plays. When you look at what Adesuwa has done for us and what Danielle Blagg has done for us, it's good to see them getting some confidence."
On the job the freshmen have done all season
"I think it's a tremendous freshmen class. They've come in and not only performed against teams that weren't as good as some but also against some very good teams. I think this is a very good team we played here tonight. They've come in and really contributed. That says a lot."
On if she is pleased with the team's rebounding effort
"I am, especially with Turtle in foul trouble. She is one of our better rebounders, so we didn't have her in there. Adesuwa had foul trouble, so it was up to Tiffany Dale and Brett (Benzio) to really pull those in. I thought Brittany McDonald came in and did some really good things for us. It was one of those games where it was certainly a team effort."
On holding North Texas without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes during the second half
"We were pretty efficient on offense during that time. I think Jamie hit a couple of threes, and we did a good job there. It was a good response. When we were on defense, we came down and got some good baskets. It was good to see. This is a team that gave us some obstacles that we haven't had with athletic rebounding ability from every position. We were able to survive it."
On different players coming up with key plays throughout the year
"This is such an unselfish team. Janique comes in and plays her role. She does a great job defensively and she hit that layup that kind of put them away there. It's fun to coach them because they've got such a great attitude. They don't really care who scores. They just want to win."
On playing Southern on Sunday
"It's a quick turnaround and again, Southern is a team that our players all know each other. We can't look past them. This exam break is going to be really good for us. After having (10) games behind us, we're going to really be able to look at some things that we need to fix. I think we're going to be a better team after Christmas. The one thing about a young team is you know you have so much room to improve. When you have a senior-laden team, you're really not sure. I think this team has so much growth in it and it really excites me."
Freshman Guard Jamie Kaplan
On making her first collegiate start
"I wasn't nervous at all. I was just excited to get out there and play, and I wanted to just play my normal game."
On the team's performance against North Texas
"We knew they were a good team coming in and we knew that we had to be able to react to their runs. We knew they were really good at getting the ball out and we needed to focus on transition defense. I thought as the game went on, we got better and better at that."
Freshman Forward Tiffany Dale
On her career day off the bench against North Texas
"I was very nervous going in, but I've always said that with the team that we have I trust them a lot and they give me a lot of confidence. Whether I start or not, I know I have to go out there and play to my full potential and do what needs to be done on the court."
On if what she did was part of the game play or if she just took what the Mean Green gave her
"I took what they gave me. If they played me to shoot, I would shoot. If they played me tight, I would look to drive and score."
