Head Coach Lisa Stockton
Overall thoughts on the win
"I thought there were a lot of positives today. We did a very good job in the first half of taking care of the ball and we shot so well. We felt that in the second half, we had to come out and play better defense, we did and I was glad to see us hold on for this one."
On the performance of tournament MVP Janique Kautsky
"This was a great tournament for her, but I think she's played well all season. She's a player who has really done a great job of working into this program and developing into one of our top players. She's really hard to do without on the floor. I'm really happy for her and happy for the senior class."
On being 5-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season
"We don't really look at it that way but it's certainly nice to be 5-0. We're definitely better than we were the first game of the year. We're getting better each game. We've got different players coming in and contributing. I like the way this team is developing and hopefully it will continue to."
On Tulane's depth playing a factor in this weekend's wins
"It did. Our players were able to come in and keep people fresh all of the time and we can attribute this tournament win to that. This is a tough place to play. You think you know what to expect when you get here, but you just don't. I thought our players did a good job of trying to fight through it and the players did a good job of coming in and contributing."
On to what she can attribute Tulane's first-half run to take control of the game
"The defense really set the tone. We were able to block shots, get rebounds, get our fast break going and get easy baskets. I think it was a combination of keying our defense and getting our offense going."
On the upcoming game against Auburn
"I think we've got three really tough games coming up. Two of the three are against teams from the SEC. Auburn is a program that we're familiar with. We've scrimmaged them the last two years, but they've got a new coaching staff. I think it's going to be a tough game. We're just glad to get back home. Hopefully we can get a good crowd in there and get the Devlin Fieldhouse rocking."
On playing the last four games away from home
"I think we accomplished what we needed to. We went on the road, we developed as a team, and I think there's a lot of bonding that happened. The players really got to know each other in a different way. Going back home, we'll just need to build on this."
Senior Wing Janique Kautsky
On being named tournament MVP
"I thought I had to come out there and we all had to give it our best. I just took one for the team. It's just as much there's as it is mine. We went out there, we knew we had to get this win and go on an early run. Yesterday, we had a close game and we didn't want that today."
On if she felt the Western Michigan players looked tired after Tulane's first-half run
"I think so, but we got tired too. Once we got momentum going we knew we had to break away from them early. We didn't want another close game like yesterday. We put it all in and we made a run when we had the momentum going. Everyone just did their bit."
On Tulane starting 5-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 season
"Wow. I didn't even know that. It's amazing, having three seniors plus myself. It's our last year so we just want to come out, do our best and get Coach another ring. This is the start we've been wanting to get and we're just going to have to keep working harder because there's still a long season to go."
On the upcoming game against Auburn
"That is a huge game, and after Auburn we have LSU in a couple of weeks. Now that this is over, we have to go back and mentally prepare and start getting ready for those games. They're going to be key games at the end of the season whether we win or lose."
