EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP Miners opened the second half with a 22-4 run to turn a tight ball game into a 60-44 win over the Tulane women's basketball team Saturday evening at the Don Haskins Center. Tiffany Aidoo scored a career-high 13 points for the Green Wave, while tying her career best with six rebounds.

Dominique Philpots added six points and four rebounds for Tulane, which falls to 11-8 overall, 1-5 in Conference USA. The Miners (15-2, 6-0 C-USA) earned their school-record 11th-straight victory.

The Miners shot 54 percent from the field in the second half, including seven-of-14 from the three-point range. Kasia Krezel led UTEP with 22 points, on nine-of-11 shooting, while Jareica Hughes added 10.

Chassity Brown drained a three from the corner as Tulane opened to a 6-2 lead. Sasha Staidum added a three and Nikki Luckhurst found Dominique Philpots inside as the Wave led 11-10 with 9:49 to go in the first half. Langford picked up a steal and mid-court and went coast to coast, but Jareica Hughes hit a jumper and Timika Williams scored inside to tie the game at 17-all.

Philpots scored again with a jumper, but UTEP's Kasia Krezel scored the final five points of the half as the Miners led 22-19 at intermission. Tulane held UTEP to just six of its first 23 field goal attempts. But the Miners connected on four of their final six shots to close the half.

In the second half, the Miners' opened with a 17-2 run, hitting seven of their first 11 attempts, including three three-point attempts. UTEP forced 12 second-half Tulane turnovers and led by as many as 22, at 44-22. Aidoo scored five straight points for Tulane to pull within 53-37, and Luckhurst added a late three-pointer as the final margin settled at 60-44.

 

 

Eleven of Aidoo's 13 points came in the second half. Nikki Luckhurst added five points, as did Ashley Langford and Brittany Lindsey. Langford chipped in five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Tulane's road trip continues with games Thursday at Tulsa (7 p.m.) and on Saturday at SMU (2 p.m.). The Green Wave will also face East Carolina in Greenville, on February 7, before returning to Fogelman Arena on February 10 against Marshall.
