Head Coach Lisa Stockton
Overall thoughts on the game
"I think that was probably a great game to watch when you look at the shooting percentages. There wasn't a great deal of turnovers in that game. There was a lot of good basketball. I think the two key points for us were giving up the rebounds and the free throws we missed. Those were huge. At the end, you're trying to scatter and do some things, but those are two stats that we have been winning in and we didn't get it done tonight."
On Tulane playing another tight game in the series with East Carolina
"I think its two good teams that matchup well. East Carolina has been a good team for the past few years, and it goes back to when they first got into the league. It's certainly two good, aggressive teams playing against each other, and it's unfortunate that we just gave up some plays at the end that cost us."
On having to turn around and play Southern Miss on Saturday after a narrow loss to the Pirates
"The best thing you can do is have another. We really wouldn't to sit on this for a week, but I don't think we should hang heads. We did a lot of things really well today. It's one of those things that we can learn from, come back and make sure we are ready to play. Southern Miss is probably one of the hottest teams in the league right now, looking at where they were last year and what they've done. It's a team we play twice. It's the only one (we play twice), so it's somebody that we have the opportunity to get them here."
On the play of freshman guard Leslie Vorpahl
"I think you see it every day. She has such an aggressive nature with the ball. It's great to have her and Jamie [Kaplan] out there at times because we're a very difficult team to press that way and they are both great passers. When Leslie is aggressive, especially the way she's been the past three games, I think we are better and it really opens a lot of things for us."
Overall thoughts on the game
"We just knew that they were going to be aggressive, so we called a lot of plays to try to attack the basket and get to the rim, which seemed to work. Down the stretch, we just couldn't get it done, but as a whole I'm proud of our team. We played very tough tonight."
On Tulane's 19-of-32 showing from the free throw line
"Free throws are important. I know we missed a lot tonight, but hopefully that will improve as we go on."
On having another game so soon being the best thing after a loss
"Of course. We want to get back on the court. I wish there was another game tomorrow, but we'll be ready to play Southern Miss on Saturday."
On using raised intensity among players to motivate players in conference games
"We just tell everyone to stick with it. We have a really strong team, mentally and physically, so as long as we stay together and play together, we have each other's backs so that's really helpful. We know every single game in this league is going to be important and realizing that is going to help us."
Freshman Guard Leslie Vorpahl
On the team's mindset during the game
"We knew that was going to be an aggressive game, and we knew they were calling it tight just like they have been all season. We just tried to stay aggressive and keep attacking the rim all night; Jamie [Kaplan] did a good job of that; we were trying to keep attacking the basket, especially when they closed in on you and we looked for the dish as well. Those free throws for us tonight were huge and we just really need to finish them."
