Christy Thieler begins her first season as an assistant coach with the Tulane women's basketball program.
Thieler comes to Tulane after having spent the last six years as the head girl's basketball coach at St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans. She has also served as Dominican's Health and Physical Education Department Head since August of 2000.
While at Dominican, Thieler compiled a record of 148-54 (73.3 percent), averaging nearly 25 wins per year. She was chosen as the 1999 Metro Coach of the Year by the New Orleans Times-Picayune and led Dominican to the state championship game in 2002. Thieler's squads won the district title in both 1999 and 2000, earning her District Coach of the Year honors those years. She was also selected as the coach of the East All-Stars at the 2002 Louisiana High School Athletic Association All-Star game and was a member of the LHSAA All-Star Selection committee.
Thieler has also been heavily involved in coaching in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) ranks, working with the prestigious Kenner Angels club team. While working with the Kenner Angels, she had the opportunity to coach current Green Wave players Lakethia Hampton and Natalie Walsh.
A 1994 graduate of the University of New Orleans, Thieler began her college career as a walk-on at LSU where she earned a scholarship before transferring. A native New Orleanian, Thieler graduated from Dominican High School.
