Dear Green Wave fans,

What a week in New Orleans and on campus! As you may know, Tulane University is the host institution for the 2012 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® and we have been working long and hard to make sure this will be the best yet. We are very appreciative of the great work our partners have contributed in putting our city in this position – the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, the city of New Orleans and countless volunteers have all had a critical hand in organizing the week’s activities.

Basketball junkies from across the country, led by fans of the University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, Ohio State University, and the University of Louisville will consume everything New Orleans has to offer. Our very own men’s basketball team will be introduced during the first game on Saturday. Beyond the action on the court, there will be hundreds of volunteers giving back to our community. For example, the NCAA, Tulane and our other partners will refurbish basketball courts and make other improvements at local schools and gyms. Today, Green Wave student-athletes will work with local schoolchildren at the Grow Dat Youth Farm to teach them about educational and job opportunities. Regardless of which team you are cheering for you will be proud of the efforts of many to lift our community.

It has also been an exciting week on campus due to the Tulane Stadium charrette that has taken place at the Wilson Center. Just a short time ago I had never heard of the term but I understand it well now. Wikipedia describes a charrette as “a method of organizing thoughts from experts and the users into a structured medium that is unrestricted and conducive to the creativity and the development of myriad scenarios”. That’s exactly what we have done in regard to the design and planning of the new football stadium. Participants in the charrette have included Tulane’s senior management team, trustees and donors from the stadium steering committee, the architects working on the project, our partners at SMG who are participating as the project manager, representatives from across campus who will be users of the facility in some capacity, and of course, athletics department coaches and employees.

We are very pleased with the progress that’s been made this week as we’ve received invaluable insight from this group. In fact, we anticipate there will be some exciting changes to the design due to the participants’ input.

We have received so much positive feedback about the stadium project and I want to thank those of you who have expressed your support of this effort. If you are looking for a tangible way to support the stadium project and Home Field Advantage campaign, please visit www.TulaneStadium.com and consider making a gift to TAF – Home Field Advantage. Have a wonderful week wherever you are and enjoy the close of March Madness. As always, feel free to contact us at wavechat@tulane.edu.
