Dear Green Wave Fans,

As 2012 kicks off I want to update our supporters on Tulane Athletics’ latest news as well as some of our department’s top priorities for the New Year. 2011 closed with a bang as we announced Curtis Johnson as the new head coach of Tulane Football and, just a few days later, launched the Home Field Advantage campaign with the new Tulane Stadium as the centerpiece.

These announcements signify the beginning of an exciting new journey for Tulane Athletics and we need all of you to join with us in supporting these efforts. The Home Field Advantage campaign is the mechanism to do so – there are opportunities for everyone to participate, whether that is a gift to TAF – Home Field Advantage, the stadium fund, the restricted football fund including endowed funds, by purchasing 2012 season tickets, or by participating in our “text-to-give” campaign (see the video at the bottom of the page). The point is we need you on board if you believe that a successful athletics program is important to our university.

We will keep you updated on the campaign and stadium progress at www.TulaneStadium.com so check back frequently. We recently launched a News section on its home page which will include updates on everything from stadium design, which will be underway throughout the spring, to construction ground-breaking, as well as our fundraising benchmarks and detailed information regarding seating in the new stadium. The first edition chronicles Tom Davis, the official Tulane University barber for over 50 years, who recently challenged Tulanians across the country to support this effort.

Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel recently praised the hiring of Coach Johnson in his review of college football’s new coaching hires and based on the formulation of his new staff and some early recruiting success I’m pleased to report that I agree with his analysis. Next Wednesday, February 1, is National Signing Day and we will celebrate Coach Johnson’s first recruiting class with a free event from 6-7:30pm in the WOW Café located in the basement of the Lavin-Bernick Center on campus. Come out and meet Coach Johnson and his staff and enjoy free food and beverages while learning about the next group of Tulane football student-athletes.

The 2012 football schedule has just been released and the Green Wave will host seven home games this season with non-conference dates against Rutgers, Ole Miss and UL-Monroe and C-USA games against SMU, UAB, Rice and East Carolina. The homecoming date will be released soon but you can check out the complete schedule now by clicking here.

I’ll be in touch next month with some new information and another update on the campaign and stadium progress. In the meantime, feel free to contact us at wavechat@tulane.edu.
