Tulane Players Compete At ITA All-American

Austin, Texas - - Tulane tennis standouts Blake Baratz and Jon Monk each reached the third round of the prequalifying draw at the Reebok/ITA Men's All-American Championships.

Baratz opened play with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 win over Nebraksa's Herbert Kiennast, while Monk was a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 winner over Texas' Joe Morris in the first round. In the second round, Baratz posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Texas-Arlington's Karim Debs, while Monk turned in a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Belmont's Marcos Cabrera.

Both Baratz and Monk narrowly missed advancing to the qualifying portion of the tournament, was each lost third round decisions. Baratz was forced to retire from his match with Pepperdine's Aliastar Garland, while Monk fell to Butler's Jimmy Borendame, 7-5, 6-2.

The duo also teamed in doubles play, advancing to the third round, as well. The tandem turned in a 8-4 win over Texas-Arlington's team of Goldshuv and Zarzeczny. In the second round, the Green Wave team posted a 9-7 victory over Arizona's Bruno Arapovic and Caleb Marquardt. Monk and Baratz were not as fortunate in the third round, dropping a 8-2 decision to Boise State's team of Khuharski and Ronmich.
