NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University will host the Beau Holton Memorial Men's Tennis Invitational this weekend at the Golding Tennis Stadium. The event opens on Friday at 9 a.m. and will continue through Sunday. This is the last chance to catch the Green Wave squad in action in New Orleans this fall.
This year's tournament will showcase the entire Tulane men's team along with players from UL-Lafayette, UNO, Southern Miss and Baylor. Admission is free.
The annual Green Wave tournament was renamed last year in memory of legendary tennis official Beau Holton, who passed away in the fall of 2002. Holton, who was responsible for the training of all tennis officials in Louisiana for many years, served as referee for Tulane University men's and women's tennis matches for eight years. A great player in his own right, Holton was a Southern Sectional singles and doubles champion and remained at the top of his age brackets throughout his long playing career, which included his collegiate days at LSU. He was inducted into the Louisiana Tennis Hall of Fame and named "Official of the Year" in 1999.
"This tournament is named in memory of a man who loved the sport of tennis and dedicated countless hours of his time as an official and instructor of officials across Louisiana," Tulane head coach Robert Klein said. "Your attendance during the weekend and especially during Sunday's final would be a great show of support for college tennis."
The singles final is scheduled for Sunday at 12 Noon.
Tulane is led by a pair of nationally-ranked singles players as No. 20 Dmitriy Koch and No. 110 Ted Angelinos will be in action. In addition, Jacobo Hernandez and David Goulet, who have had excellent fall campaigns will be looking to continue their success along with the remainder of the Green Wave roster.
Results will be posted at www.TulaneGreenWave.com following the completion of each day's matches.
