Athens, Ga. - - The Tulane men's tennis doubles team of Christoph Ortner and Derya Rose reached the quarterfinals in the A doubles flight at the Southern Collegiate Championships.
The Tulane duo opened the tournament with an 8-5 win over the seeded team of Pavlinic and Senk from Georgia State. In the second round, Ortner and Rose were 9-8 winners over Auburn's Mizerski and Strecker. In the quarterfinals, the Green Wave tandem dropped a 9-7 decision to Georgia's team of Boeker and Parrott.
In the singles portion of the tournament, Ortner and Dennis Lundberg each reached the third round of the A Flight singles draw. Lundber, who was seeded third, received a bye in the first round before posting a 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 win over Murray State's Nikola Adcock in the second round. In the third round, Lundberg dropped a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 decision to Stetson's Pietro Demichelli.
Ortner, an alphabetical seed, also began with a bye before recording a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Tennessee's Mark Fitzpatrick in the second round. Ortner then fell to Duke's Doug Root in the third round, 6-1, 6-2.
Tulane's Mikko Viljanen reached the third round of the Division II singles draw. After beginning with a bye, Viljanen was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over LSU's Anthony Mateljan before dropping a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Duke's Michael Yani.
