Lafayette, La. - - Tulane men's tennis standouts Christoph Ortner and Dennis Lundberg both reached the quarterfinals of the A Flight at the BellSouth Mobility Classic hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
Lundberg, who entered competition as the tournament's No. 2 seed, opened play with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Emmanue Sjoblom of Lamar in the first round. The Falkopinj, Sweden native then recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over Fred Blaise of UL Monroe in the second round. Lundberg was not as fortunate in the quarterfinals, however, dropping a 6-4, 6-4 result to LSU's Ed Rubin.
Ortner also started strong, posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over UL Monroe's Bartosz Dabrowksi in the first round before notching a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Texas' Craig Edmondson in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Ortner lost a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 decision to Minnesota's Martin Michalowski.
In the B Flight, Derya Rose and Chris Mays both advanced to the second round. Rose was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Minnesota's Eric Robertson, before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Sebastian Locatelli in the second round. Mays posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win over Mattias Mosso of Troy State in the first round, but dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Cody Jackson of Rice.
In other first round action, Mikko Viljanen dropped a 7-6, 6-2 decision to LSU's Anthony Mateljan in the A Flight, while Paul Kolenich and Blake Baratz also lost first-round decisions.
