Ortner Reaches Second Round At National Clay Courts

Pikesville, Md. - - Tulane senior Christoph Ortner reached the second round of the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championship prequalifying round.

Ortner posted a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Norfolk State's Jose Novotny in the first round before dropping a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision to Middle Tennessee State's Robert Gustafson in the second round.

Green Wave teammate Derya Rose did not fare as well, falling to Michigan's Danny McCain, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round.

This weekend's action was the first of three legs of the national clay courts. Eight players advanced from the prequalifying tournament into the qualifying tournament. In the qualifying tournament, players must win two matches in two days to reach the main draw.
