TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Tulane men's tennis doubles team of sophomore Alex Van Cott and freshman Sebastian Rey knocked off the sixth-ranked duo of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State on Saturday morning in the third round of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Tournament at the University of Alabama's Tennis Complex.
The Green Wave duo advanced to the quarterfinals that will be played on Saturday afternoon with an 8-4 victory over the Mississippi State tandem that was the No. 1 seed in the doubles flight.
"This is a great win for our program," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Mississippi State always has solid doubles teams and those guys in particular have always been amongst the top ranked teams for the last couple of years.
"It's nice to see some fruits for Alex's and Sebastian's hard work and belief in themselves," Booras added. "Now we have to refocus to play another very solid team later today. Hopefully we can keep on building on the wins."
The USTA/ITA Southern Regional continues on Saturday afternoon with the remaining singles and doubles matches. Check back at www.tulanegreenwave.com later this evening for the results of day three.
