TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - All eight members of the Tulane men's tennis team will take to the courts starting Thursday for the five-day long USTA/ITA Southern Regional Tournament at the University of Alabama's Tennis Complex.
The Green Wave joins a field that also includes members of Alabama, UAB, Auburn, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Samford, South Alabama and Troy.
"This one of the biggest team tournaments of the fall," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "All of the programs from the Southern region are playing so it is a very competitive event. This is a great opportunity for us to get the exposure against nationally ranked programs and to get our guys up against that kind of competition."
So far this fall freshman Jao Chi-Shan is a perfect 3-0 in singles and claimed his flight championship at the Rice Invitational. Sophomore Dominik Koepfer, ranked No. 112 in singles, has posted a 3-2 fall singles record, including a win over No. 77 Aaron Pfister of Michigan State last week at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.
"We've had some guys have some good results this fall as well," Booras added. "It would be nice to see them carry on that success this weekend."
Singles matches get underway Thursday at 10 a.m. CT with the first and second round matches. Doubles begin at 8:30 a.m. CT with the opening round. The tournament will conclude on Monday with the doubles final, the main draw singles final and the consolation final.
